Animal exports

One of the SNP’S most high-profile supporters, the Duchess of Hamilton, is considering leaving the party after the Scottish Government voiced opposition to a proposed Uk-wide ban on the exporting of live animals for slaughter after the UK leaves the EU. My late father, a Perthshire vet, railed against live export for slaughter and EEC ‘big is beautiful’ abattoir rules that saw animals transported, unwatered, unfed and generally abused for hours on end. Why? Because corner-cutting and economies of scale mattered more than humane treatment and the rules were difficult, if not impossible, to police.
