An awards ceremony focused on the offshore industry that takes place in Aberdeen later this month is to be hosted by TV presenter and maths expert Rachel Riley.

She is “returning by popular demand after being involved in previous years”, accord‑ ing to the event’s organis‑ er the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen, and will present winners announced on the night with trophies designed by Robin Pioche of Gray’s School of Art, who won the student trophy design competition.

Ian Phillips, chairman of SPE Aberdeen, one of the largest SPE sections globally, said: “We are delighted that Rachel will be joining us again. She is always hugely popular with attendees, and her advocacy of science, technology, engineer‑ ing and maths (Stem) subjects is perfectly in tune with the aims of both SPE Aberdeen and the awards.

“With less than a month to go until the awards, and all our finalists offering some‑ thing exceptional, this is a time to be proud of the great work going on in our industry. We can’t wait to reveal the win‑ ners.” The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, 22 March, at the Aberdeen Exhi‑ bition and Conference Centre.

Finalists from both the off‑ shore oil and gas and renew‑ ables sectors were revealed in January, with categories including technical innova‑ tion, company performance, collaboration and individual achievement. 0 Riley is praised for her advocacy of Stem subjects
