- By SCOTT REID mflanagan@scotsman.com

Legal firm Macroberts yesterday announced that Neil Kennedy will become its new managing partner.

Kennedy, a corporate partner, will succeed John Macmillan from 1 May, the Glasgow-based firm said.

Macmillan steps down from the top role after his second term as managing partner and will continue as an employment partner for the firm. The handover process between the pair is said to have been in the planning for more than four months allowing a “smooth changeover” come May.

Kennedy said: “Anyone who has met me knows that I am really passionate about Macroberts and the people who make it the firm it is.

“We have achieved great success under John Macmillan’s expert watch and we will continue to achieve this through investment, underpinned by exceptional talent and service.” Macmillan described Kennedy as a “very fine successor”, adding: “He has all the right attitude, client and staff focus and Macroberts’ ethos.

“The firm will be in very good hands and I was delighted by the strength of the partner support for his appointment. Having been in the managing partner role for more than 11 of the last 20 years and all of the last three and half, I was sure it was time to hand the role on to a more dynamic and focused individual.”

Macroberts is shortlisted three times at this month’s Scottish Legal Awards. Corporate partner Michael Kelly is in the running for lawyer of the year and the firm is a finalist in corporate deal team of the year and family law team. 0 Neil Kennedy is due to take up the post on 1 May
