Industrial disease law under consultation
A proposed new law to claw back cash spent on industrial disease treatment on the NHS in Scotland is under consultation.
The consultation seeks views on a Member’s Bill by the SNP’S Stuart Mcmillan which would allow the recovery of costs associated with NHS treatment for industrial diseases caused by negligence.
The legislation would enable health boards to be repaid for spending incurred while treating a wide range of industrial diseases including industrial deafness, asthma, various skin diseases and asbestos-related conditions.
Mr Mcmillan said: “For many years the NHS has been able to recover the costs of injuries caused by road traffic accidents.
“I would like to see that principle extended to industrial diseases.”
