Glasgow gets top billing for indie publishers

- By SCOTT REID

Glasgow has emerged as the top “independent” publishing location in Scotland.

The city was placed ahead of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee by internet giant Amazon, with the greatest number of authors per capita publishing their work via the company’s Kindle Direct Publishing programme.

Livingston, Stirling, Inverness, Dunfermline, Ayr and Kilmarnock grabbed fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth spots, respectively.

The rankings were released to coincide with the news that the Amazon Academy for authors will be held at the SECC in Glasgow on 17 April.

Orna Ross, founder of the Alliance of Independent Authors, said: “Digital publishing means writers today can take creative control and publish their books, their way, to a global audience and can now earn a living as never before. The Amazon Academy for authors is a great opportunity to find out more about producing and selling books.”
