#ANDREWNEIL

There was a furious row yesterday as left-wing columnist Owen Jones accused Scottish BBC presenter Andrew Neil of right-wing bias. @Mrdavidwhitley posted: “The point with Andrew Neil is not that he isn’t an excellent, scrupulously fair interviewer – he is. It’s that he’s allowed way more leeway for personal views, which are potentially compromising, than any other BBC journalist.” @Dpjhodges countered: “Andrew Neil is the bestbriefed, most forensic, most effective and most balanced political broadcaster in the UK. Everyone, on the sensible Left and sensible Right, acknowledges that. Except, of course, the Corbynites.” @Frayne_jack wrote: “An important point well made by @Owenjones84: the BBC would never employ a news broadcaster as left-wing as Andrew Neil is right-wing, and there would be uproar if they did.”

#SYRIA

Outrage continues over a suspected chemical weapons attack allegedly carried out by the Assad regime in Syria. Donald Trump has ramped up the threat of airstrikes in the region, while politicians in the UK are urging Theresa Maytoholdavotein parliament on the issue. @Stewartmcdonald tweeted: “I have written to the Prime Minister urging extreme caution as she considers her government’s response to events in Syria. Any change to the role of UK Forces must be subject to a parliamentary vote. The SNP will not support action that escalates violence or deepens the conflict.” @Zacgoldsmith agreed: “We need a clear response to the Syrian chemical outrage. But Parliament must be involved before any military action is agreed. Specifically, the Govt needs to explain who is strengthened if and when Assad is weakened. And what happens after.”

#TYSONFURY

One of boxing most mercurial talents, former champion Tyson Fury, has announced his return to the ring. @Jamersh44 wrote: “Brought a smile to my boat seeing @Tyson_fury come back not before time.” @Ronlewis tweeted: “Tyson Fury to return at Manchester Arena on June 9. By my reckoning this will be the seventh fight he has had scheduled there – the first six did not happen.”
