Subaru announces new technology and styling for updated 2018 Outback estate

-

Subaru has announced specifications and pricing of the updated Outback.

The revised version of the rugged estate brings styling changes inside and out and a suite of new driver aid technologies without any change to the price.

For 2018 Subaru’s complete Eyesight suite of safety technology is standard across all Outbacks. Lane keep assist has been added to the adaptive cruise control, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, pre-collision braking and pre-collision throttle management.

Two new cameras have also been added to aid drivers. A 180-degree front-mounted camera and an additional side view camera are designed to reduce the driver’s blind spots and aid manoeuvring in tight spaces. And steering responsive headlights track driver inputs to illuminate corners when turning.

On the outside, the front grille, bumper, door mirrors and headlights have been redesigned while new trim panels and upgraded media systems bring a refresh to the interior.

Buyers of SE trim now get a 6.5-inch touchscreen as standard while SE Premium models get an eight-inch system, compatible with Android Auto and Apple Careplay.

Mechanically, the Outback remains the same, powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol unit. The boxer engine produces 173bhp and 173lb/ ft, returning fuel economy of 38.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 166g/km.

Prices for the 2018 Subaru Outback start from £29,995 for the SE Model and £33,010 for the SE Premium.
