Victory gets Grange back on track but Kelburne still lead the way

Grange returned to winning ways in the First Division with a 3-1 defeat of Edinburgh University but they failed to make any inroads on the fivepoint cushion held by leaders Bromac Kelburne.

In a hard-fought contest, Frank Ryan at a penalty corner gave Grange the lead at the interval. Luke Cranney doubled his side’s tally before Ewan Mackie reduced the deficit for the students. The points were finally sealed when Callum Mackenzie deflected home another Ryan penalty corner strike.

Despite trailing to Andrew Mcconnell’s goal, Kelburne replied through Jack Mckenzie, Josh Cairns, Michael Christie and Craig Morton for a comfortabl­e 4-1 victory.

Grove Menzieshil­l consolidat­ed third spot with a 4-2 away win at Clydesdale. Inverleith finally broke their duck with a 4-3 win over Hillhead but it’s too late to save them from relegation.

This season’s Scottish Cup final will be an all-edinburgh affair between Grange and Edinburgh University.

The students continued their giant-killing exploits with a 2-0 win over Wildcats at Auchenhowi­e, Davyn Keuter and David Mawhinney got the goals from set pieces. Grange had a more difficult route to the final, their tie against Clydesdale ending in a 2-2 draw before winning they won the penalty shootout 3-1.

In the women’s First Division, Milne Craig Clydesdale Western saw off rivals Grove 2-1 at Titwood, while Watsonians moved back into fifth spot with a 5-2 win over Hillhead, Nikki Stobie scoring twice.
