Kris Boyd believes Saturday’s hard-fought 2-1 victory at Hamilton showed how far Kilmarnock have come under Steve Clarke.

Goals from Kirk Broadfoot and Boyd gave Killie their sixth consecutive Ladbrokes Premiership win and moved them to within four points of fourthplaced Hibernian heading into the post-split fixtures.

Substitute David Templeton had levelled the scores for Accies with a terrific free-kick, but the visitors did not let their heads go down and Boyd had the last word when he finished off a fine move.

It has been quite a turnaround for the club who were bottom in October before Clarke took the job.

Boyd, pictured, who grabbed his 21st goal of the season, said: “For us to come back from that shows how far we’ve came.

“For being in control of the match for so long, to then have that setback, to then lift our game again and get over the line... it’s a great three points for us. Probably in weeks, months gone past, it would have been somewhere where we drop points. “Since the manager has come in, the turnaround at the football club has been unbelievable.” The defeat left Accies five points off the bottom and midfielder Darian Mackinnon warned his side they can ill-afford any more slip-ups between now and the end of the campaign if they hope to avoid another relegation playoff.

He said: “It is just frustrating. You can’t leave Kris Boyd in your box, standing by himself. It’s just criminal defending and we were well warned before it.

“Mistakes are costing us games and it will end up costing us our place in the league if we don’t start sorting that out.”
