Boss hails ‘outstanding’ Hanlon as defender signs new deal
Hibernian manager Neil Lennon believes Paul Hanlon will only get better and better after handing the defender a new four-year deal.
The 28-year-old is celebrating his testimonial season after racking up ten years of service in Leith and his new contract will see him tied to Easter Road until the summer of 2022.
But boss Lennon admits it was an easy decision to hand the centre-half fresh terms after watching his impressive displays this term.
“I’m delighted as he deserves it,” said the Northern Irishman. “He’s been tremendously consistent for me over the last two years and tremendously consistent over the last ten years. He’s getting better. At 28, he’s coming into his peak years so it’s a great bit of business for the club.
“He’s very content here and has been outstanding this season.”
Hibs vice-captain Hanlon has made 340 appearances for the club and won his first Scotland call-up earlier this season.
He told Hibs’ official website: “I am delighted to have extended my stay at the club.
“Everyone knows I grew up a Hibs fan – playing for your boyhood heroes is what every kid dreams about and I am very happy that I’ll get to do that for another few years.
“The club is in a great position at the moment – we’ve had a strong first season back in the Premiership and things are looking good on and off the park.
“I’m really enjoying my football at the moment and hopefully we can continue to progress in the coming years.”
