The Scottish Government has rejected a Westminster offer to resolve the Brexit “power grab” impasse. @Brucesutherland said: “So May wants seven years of UK control over Scottish powers, basically nullifyng the democratically-elected Scottish Parliament. Nicola Sturgeon was right to say no.” @Seanpaterson posted: “Nicola Sturgeon said no to having the Scottish Government dictated over for seven years making democracy in the UK null and void? Well, I hope so.” @Harryhastings added: “They can reject it all they want as it will be happening. Nicola Sturgeon is lucky that all powers are not taken away altogether and Holyrood disbanded because of her delay tactics and not accepting democracy.”

#MILLICENTFAWCETT

The first statue of a woman was unveiled in Parliament Square yesterday. The statue commemorates the life of Millicent Fawcett, who campaigned for the right of women to vote. @Tinadaheley said: “Still find it incredible that it’s taken until this day in 2018 to erect the first ever statue of a woman in Parliament Square.” @Sharonheathcote wrote: “In 1866 Millicent Fawcett delivered the first petition for women’s suffrage to Parliament. It’s taken 150 years to finally erect a statue in her honour.” @Serita added: “The first statue of a woman in Parliament Square unveiled. May it be the first of many.”

#ALFIEEVANS

The father of terminally ill baby Alfie Evans said his son had been breathing without life support at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool for nine hours. The child’s life support was turned off on Monday night. @Mattwelshblog wrote: “Alfie Evans’ parents are forced to watch their boy die slowly in front of them because the hospital and the courts will not allow them to take him to another hospital. No decent person could possibly support this.” @Pistol147 said: “Just seen the news on the Alfie Evans case. Truly heartbreaking. I’m no doctor but if the child needs oxygen why is it not given to him? It all seems wrong.” @Nade_dunne tweeted: “I feel disgusted to be a human being. Poor Alfie. This is not an animal this is a child.”
