If you have a disability, the scheme as it stands should stay; however, it should be linked to the state pension age for the rest of us. You cannot carry on dishing out cash and saddling the taxpayer with the bill; if you are of working age it’s up to you to sort your own transport.

Dweller55 Rich people should not get free travel paid for by poor people. Rather, poor people should get free travel regardless of age.

Sparts If money needs to be saved from the scheme, then maybe limit it to the council area where the user lives, or one it shares a border with. It is a bit ridiculous, imo, that someone can get a bus from Berwick to Banff free of charge as often as they wish, just because they are seven years short of getting their pension.

Combobulat­ed Bob I don’t know for certain but I think that free transport in England only applies to the county that issues the pass.

The Ayrshire bard The “Scottish Concession­ary” bus pass scheme is paid for nationally – and not council area by council area (albeit local exceptions and rail concession­s are separately and individual­ly financed)!

Andrew Stephen Thing about the monarchy is, the Windsors, Wales or whatever made-up name they are trading under these days are a physically unattracti­ve bunch with a lower-than-average IQ. If we are to have a royal family, surely a country with 62 million people can find a better, cleverer & nicer family to represent them.

george_spiggott As a unionist I am supportive of the Queen, but I do believe the time has come to bring the curtain down on constituti­onal monarchy. The Queen has done her duty, she did it with grace and she will soon be leaving us, nobody in the family can fill her shoes, and none of them will be received with the same level of respect.
