ID card debate

-

crowns came about because the Scottish king inherited the English throne! We will not have a referendum on this and we will not dump our future king!

Road to Perdition This really is a silly debate. You need to have a head of state of some form or other. We currently have an hereditary monarch who has almost zero actual political power. The Queen is really a symbol, not a political actor.

Euan Gray Good for tourism no matter which one is king/ queen. William and Kate will become Elizabeth and Phillip clones for sure. rangersmoreleaguewinthanceltic The draw of the royal family in terms of tourism is massive. They do far more good than harm from an international relations point of view.

Esox Hunter IMO Queen Elizabeth II should be the last monarch. If Charles wants to sit on the throne, he will be the one destroying the last layer of respect and affection that still resides among the Brits and world-wide. If Charles would pass the throne to his son then maybe the monarchy can survive another 40-50 years. Just maybe. All forms of ID are able to be copied. Fake passports as an example. The vast majority will do what they have to do to get genuine required ID. The illegals will do what they have to do to get fake ID.

I know you know Had one for 23 years. When Labour were in power we were told that there were at least a million illegals in the UK, what happened to them? An ID card is long overdue!

Roderic Kyle It’s not the card that is the problem per se, it’s the massive database of personal/biometric information behind it, how securely it would be kept and who would have access. In the meantime, everyone here legitimately has an identifier that can be used as a basis for several, background checks: NI number.

Norton Lux ID cards are nothing new I reckon some politicians are trying to make political capital out of this.

Scotland and the Union Forever A very good idea
