- By ILONA AMOS

Sir Alex Ferguson is out of intensive care and continuing to recover in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage just a few days ago.

The former Manchester United manager underwent emergency surgery on Saturday.

The club said last night the procedure had gone well but the 76-year-old still needed some time to

rest. The Scot was reported to be awake and talking to family and medical staff by Monday, as messages of support poured in.

The latest update on his con- dition came in a message from Manchester United.

The club tweeted: “Sir Alex no longer needs intensive care and will continue rehabilitation as an inpatient.

“His family have been overwhelmed by the level of support and good wishes but continue to request privacy as this will be vital during this next stage of recovery.”

Sir Alex was last seen in public at Old Trafford last month when he presented out-going Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger with a commemorative trophy. The previous day he was in Scotland for as the special guest at 50th anniversary celebrations for Dunfermline Athletic’s Scottish Cup win.
