Cadden ‘ speechless’ as Mcleish adds winger to squad for Scotland tour

Motherwell wing er Chris Cadden hopes he can take his career to a new level after landing his first Scotland call- up.

The 21- year-old has been added to Alex Mcleish’s Scotland squad for the end- of- season friendlies with Peru and Mexico. He has been given his chance on the tour following Wednesday’s withdrawal­s of Matt Ritchie and Ryan Fraser and he has vowed to make the most of the opportunit­y.

He told MFCTV: “I’m speechless. It’s a huge honour for me and my family. I told my mum and dad and they got quite emotional.

“It’s come out of the blue but I’m delighted and honoured.

“Ican’ twa it. It’ sdiffe rentlevels tu ff. I’m just so excited to meet up with the boys and see what it’s all about.

“Hopefully I can get some game time. It will be an experience I’m sure I’ll learn from.”

Cad den–who has seven under- 21 caps – follows Hearts defender John Souttar and St Mirren’ sLew is Morgan into the full squad after impressing for Scot Gemmill’s youth team.

He has been an impressive performer for Stephen Robinson’s Motherwell side and will hope to cap off another fine season by leading the Lanarkshir­e club to Scottish Cup glory in tomorrow’s final with Celtic.

“I’m absolutely delighted for him,” said Robinson. “Chris is a super boy. He’s Mother well through and through and this is no surprise he’s been called up. It’s a fantastic achievemen­t.

“Of course it can give him a lift before Saturday. Personally it will be a boost for Chris as mixing with the full Scottish internatio­nals will do no th- i ng but good for his career.” Mcleish’s squad face Peru in Lima on 29 May before travelling to Mexico City for the 2 June clash with the Mexicans.

Ritchie, Fraser and Wolves defender Barry Douglas were all named in Mcleish’s orig - i nal 24- man squad but have since withdrawn through injury. Souttar may also have to miss the trip with a hamstring injury,

The only other additional call-up so far has been Kilmarnock right-back Stephen O’donnell.
