Accountant Johnston Carmichael boosts senior team with promotions

0 Marketing head Gemma Spiers is to become a partner Accountanc­y and business advisory firm Johnston Carmichael has announced a raft of senior promotions, including a trio of new partners, whom it says will play a “major” role in its success as it further expands its range of services.

Based out of the Edinburgh office, marketing head Gemma Spiers, who joined the firm from Deloitte three years ago, will be promoted to partner along with Michael Murray, a chartered quantity surveyor and capital allowances specialist who has been with Johnston Carmichael since 2013. Also moving up to the role of partner is Scott Dunbar, a member of the business advisory team based in Elgin, who has been with the firm since 2008.

The business, which came about after Bill Johnston met John Carmichael in 1936, has also promoted six new directors across five of its 11 offices.

They are Glasgow-based Chris Johnstone and Neil Wilson; Fiona Kenneth from Aberdeen; Elaine Mckilligan based in Huntly; Fiona Munro from the Elgin office and Robert Winters from Edinburgh.

The promotions bring the total number of partners at Johnston Carmichael to 56, and are effective from 1 June.

Chief executive Sandy Manson said: “These well-deserved promotions are testament to our commitment to building a firm fit for the future. In the last five years, we have promoted 20 new partners and 20 new directors into the leadership team, all in the natural course of our succession plan.

“Our future success is determined by our 700-plus people, and developing talent is a central part of our strategy.

“I am confident our new partners and directors will play a major part in the success of our business as we continue to expand our range of services to meet the needs of our clients.”
