New appointment to NFUS environment and land use brief
NFU Scotland has appointed Dr Andrew Midgley as its new environment and land use policy manager.
Midgley moves from the landowner’s organisation Scottish Land and Estates, where he worked as projects and research manager.
The union said he had gained a wealth of experience in issues surrounding Scottish environmental land use.
Having gained a PHD from Edinburgh University focused on the culture of nature conservation in Scotland, he also worked at SRUC where he helped establish the Rural Policy Centre, and at Scottish Natural Heritage where he worked on the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy.
Midgley said he was delighted to be joining NFUS at such a critical moment in the history of Scottish farming and land management.

NFUS director of policy Jonnie Hall said: “Environment and land use policy manager is an important role in NFU Scotland with so many different issues affecting members across Scotland’s various landscapes and I am certain that Andrew will take the role and make it his own in the coming weeks and months.”
