Protests at Holy­rood as gov­ern­ment claims SNP re­jected a deal

Two-year-old Alas­dair France was among those who took part in the Hands Off Our Par­lia­ment demon­stra­tion out­side the Scot­tish Par­lia­ment dur­ing First Min­is­ter’s Ques­tions yes­ter­day, in protest at what or­gan­is­ers say are at­tempts by West­min­ster to ‘un­der­mine de­vo­lu­tion’ as part of the Brexit process.

Scot­tish in­de­pen­dence sup­port­ers take part in the Hands Off Our Par­lia­ment demon­stra­tion dur­ing First Min­is­ter’s Ques­tions at Holy­rood.

The or­gan­is­ers said they aimed to defy at­tempts by West­min­ster to “un­der­mine de­vo­lu­tion” amidst con­cerns over what hap­pens to pow­ers in de­volved ar­eas af­ter Brexit.

It comes af­ter the UK par­lia­ment passed an amend­ment to the EU (With­drawal) Bill that Scot­tish min­is­ters in­sist will cur­tail Holy­rood’s pow­ers for seven years. There was less than 20 min­utes of de­bate, spark­ing a mass walk­out by SNP MPS from Prime Min­is­ter’s Ques­tions.
