Protests at Holyrood as government claims SNP rejected a deal
Two-year-old Alasdair France was among those who took part in the Hands Off Our Parliament demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament during First Minister’s Questions yesterday, in protest at what organisers say are attempts by Westminster to ‘undermine devolution’ as part of the Brexit process.
Scottish independence supporters take part in the Hands Off Our Parliament demonstration during First Minister’s Questions at Holyrood.
The organisers said they aimed to defy attempts by Westminster to “undermine devolution” amidst concerns over what happens to powers in devolved areas after Brexit.
It comes after the UK parliament passed an amendment to the EU (Withdrawal) Bill that Scottish ministers insist will curtail Holyrood’s powers for seven years. There was less than 20 minutes of debate, sparking a mass walkout by SNP MPS from Prime Minister’s Questions.
