Weathering the storm: Damage as tornado strikes Pennsylvania

-

A tornado caused extensive damage across north-east Pennsylvania yesterday, with at least six people left injured.

The extreme weather conditions saw a truck overturned in a busy thoroughfare in the city of Wilkes-barre, with houses, shops, and cars left destroyed across the state and power lines felled down by the storm’s ferocity. The roof of one shopping centre, meanwhile, was torn off by the winds.

Joy Frie, a bartender from Wilkes-barre, told the Citizens’ Voice newspaper that she and her fellow staff and customers were forced to huddle in the bar as the tornado bore down on them. The 18-yearold said: “The doors were busting open. Almost everyone’s cars in the parking lot were destroyed.”
