Hutton extends stay at cash-strapped Villa

-

Scotland defender Alan Hutton has signed a new one-year deal at Aston Villa.

The 33-year-old right-back was out of contract this summer but will stay with the cashstrapped club. Nottingham Forest had reportedly offered him a two-year deal to move to the City Ground.

Villa have been in turmoil since losing the Sky Bet Championship play-off final to Fulham last month, with growing fears over their financial future as they missed a tax bill and sacked chief executive Keith Wyness – who is now suing the club for constructive dismissal.

Hutton said: “There were times I thought I was playing my last game. After the Fulham defeat it could have gone either way.

“I’ve found it tough, I’ve grown to love the club. I’m still coming to terms with it [the play-off defeat] but we’ve got a new season coming up and we have to look forward now.

“The club should be in the Premier League. The unfinished business is getting back to the Premier League.

“I would have waited for as long as possible but fortunately for me it’s come quickly.

“It’s all I ever really wanted. It’s only just happened but there’s no other place I wanted to be.”
