Ronaldo to ‘accept fine and jail term’
Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly agreed to accept a €18.8 million fine (£16.4m) and suspended jail term to settle tax evasion charges.
The 33-year-old Real Madrid and Portugal footballer had been accused of defrauding tax authorities of €14.8m.
The El Mundo newspaper reported Ronaldo had offered to pay £12.9m in June last year, but the government rejected the offer.
The news came hours before he scored a hat-trick in a 3-3 World Cup draw with Spain.
