Link bridge reopens after major repairs
A historic bridge has reopened in the Scottish Borders.
The Lowood Bridge, which is 250 years old and links Galashiels and Melrose, is now operational again ahead of schedule after being shut for 20 weeks.
The structure was closed for major repairs and strengthening.
The £640,000 upgrade included extensive masonry work and improvements to the traffic lights.
All vehicles are now allowed to cross the bridge after the works eliminated the need for a 26-tonne weight limit.
