Capital’s Zonal Retail Data Systems buys electronic point-of-sale peer Comtrex

- By SCOTT REID

Edinburgh-based till and point-of-sale specialist Zonal Retail Data Systems has snapped up Comtrex, a US and Uk-based supplier of hospitality electronic systems, on undisclosed terms.

The US arm of Comtrex is based out of New Jersey and, when added to the current Zonal office in Florida, provides extended coverage of the North American market.

Stuart Mclean, Zonal’s longtime chief executive, said: “Comtrex is a fantastic addition to the Zonal family with great customers and products on both sides of the Atlantic.” Richard Hammond, who heads up Zonal’s US division, said: “The team at Comtrex will be a real asset to Zonal and I’m looking forward to continuing to build our combined company as a growing force in the US POS [point-ofsale] technology world.”

Zonal, which was founded four decades ago, is a major provider of “integrated hospitality management solutions” to more than 15,000 leisure and hospitality businesses across the UK.

The deal is expected to be sealed “as soon as practical”.
