Come on, Sir Andy

-

Welcome back, Sir Andy. After a year out through injury, the former world number one tennis player is back in action later today.

Sir Andy says that his return to the court is not about winning but about getting back on the court and discovering how that feels. We Scots have – with the best of intentions – put a lot of pressure on Sir Andy in recent years. And he has lived up to our hopes, time and again. Olympic gold and two Wimbledon victories have secured the sportsman a place in the history books. But we hope he has further successes to come.

For now, though, the important thing is that this inspiring athlete is back in the game. Win or lose, today, getting back to fitness so soon after hip surgery shows exactly the sort of determination that helped Sir Andy become a world beater. It may take time, there may be stumbles along the way but, as Sir Andy returns to the tennis court, our frequently-divided nation will surely unite behind him.

Through his career, Sir Andy Murray has beaten the odds and we’re sure the same grit will see him add to his haul of trophies before long. Come on, Sir Andy!
