Pensioner dies after his car comes off road

A pensioner died after his car came off the road and hit a tree in West Lothian.

Passing motorists found a blue Ford B-max car in a field near Linlithgow yesterday.

The crash happened about 1:10am next to the southbound carriagewa­y of the M9 between junctions three and four.

Officers say the 71-yearold male driver was found unconsciou­s inside the car.

Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed until 6:45am.
