Leonard calls for review into Bield home closures
Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard has called for a review of the Bield care home closures after an 87-year-old former resident died following her “forced transition” into new accommodation.
Christina Wilson, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, was moved from a “very sheltered” Bonnybridge flat to a nearby nursing home after the firm withdrew from the care home market.
Her granddaughter Laura Owens said Ms Wilson, who died last week, deteriorated within weeks of being re-housed at Bankview Nursing Home.
Mr Leonard said the move represented a “huge breach” in the continuity of care she received.
Bield announced in October it was to shut 12 of its properties across Scotland.
