Archbishop to appear at child abuse inquiry
Archbishop Emeritus Mario Conti has been called to give evidence at Scotland’s child abuse inquiry.
The former bishop of Aberdeen will appear next week during a phase of the inquiry relating to institutions run by the Sisters of Nazareth.
Yesterday the Scottish Government announced the inquiry, led by Lady Smith, will be extended to allow it to hear from more survivors.
The inquiry – which has already cost £13.9 million – had been due to report next year. But following a request, is has been agreed it will now report “as soon as reasonably practicable”.
Deputy First Minister John Swinney said: “I have agreed to the request to revise the original terms of reference to allow more time for the inquiry to complete its work.”
