MPS urged to help resolve Assange impasse
MPS are being urged to help resolve the impasse over the future of Julian Assange amid growing fears about his health and continued spending on surveillance.
The Wikileaks founder has been living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for six years, fearing he will be extradited to the US if he leaves the building.
MPS have been told that more than £22 million has been spent by the police, with surveillance continuing even though officers are no longer stationed outside the embassy.
The briefing by lawyer Jennifer Robinson said: “The UK could put an end to exorbitant public expense by providing a diplomatic assurance against US extradition. Mr Assange has made it clear he is happy to face British justice but not at the expense of facing American injustice.”
