Pension warning
Funny how potentially important issues get little publicity and lesser ones are blown out of proportion when the Scottish Government is involved.
The Finance Secretary wants to consolidate Local Government Pension Schemes (SLGPS) into one big one – a bit like creating single Scottish Police and Fire Services – but why change a system that works? With almost half million members in the 11 funds comprising Scottish Local Government Pension Scheme, ministers would presumably want more say on investments and there are already ideas for infrastructure spending. SLGPS liabilities to members exceed its £42 billion assets and experience of former BHS employees and pensioners should serve as a warning on pension management.
