Polly Glide is smooth winner of Hamilton Handicap

- By GORDON BROWN

Irish raider Polly Glide was an all-the-way scorer under Paul Hanagan on the Saints & Sinners card at Hamilton last night.

Lee Smyth’s four-year-old saw off Duck Egg Blue by a length and a half in the British Stallions Stud Captain J C Stewart EBF Fillies Handicap.

The Northern Ireland handler said: “I’m delighted for the owner Dr David Allan as he isn’t based very far from here. We think a lot of this filly and we were disappointed with her run in a Listed race at Ayr in May.

“For a daughter of Nathaniel to win over a mile tells you all you need to know. Hopefully she has a bright future and she only cost 6,000 guineas.”

Iain Jardine-trained Marnie James showed his rivals a nice turn of foot with a blistering performance in the Patersons Of Greenoakhill Handicap.

The Dumfriesshire trainer said: “We think a lot of him and still only had just ten races. He’s not entered up anywhere and we may look for a threeyear-old handicap.”

Emily Easterby was all smiles after making all on Duke Of Yorkshire, trained by her father Tim, in the Exsel Group Saints & Sinners Amateur Riders’ Handicap.

“He’s a real star and when there was no pace on I decided to make the running,” the winning rider said.

Magnolia Springs can give inform Eve Johnson Houghton another big-race triumph by taking the Group Three honours in the Stobart Energy Hoppings Fillies’ Stakes at Newcastle today.

The Johnson Houghton stable will still be on a high from the exploits of Accidental Agent in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and in Magnolia Spring they have a second potential headlinegrabber. The daughter of Shamardal stepped up on previous efforts to take the Listed Height of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood on her first try at a mile and a quarter. That was only her fourth start, so it is fair to assume there is more improvement to come.

Pippin has been steadily going through the ranks with victories in his last two starts at Salisbury and Newbury.

Hughie Morrison’s improving three-year-old can take another step up in grade in the Fly London Southend Airport To Prague Handicap at Newmarket.
