Davis tales

-

There must be hundreds of stories about Rangers’ legend Harold Davis.

One close to home is when my husband, playing for Motherwell reserves, played Rangers reserves at Ibrox. The reason Harold Davis, Eric Caldow and Jim Baxter were playing in the reserves was because they were coming back from injury and Rangers were playing a European Cup Tie the following week and the game was being used to assess their fitness.

The original player who was opposite Harold Davis was small and light and was getting nowhere so my husband was moved from the No. 4 to No. 10 position opposite Harold Davis as he was bigger and stronger. However, it made no difference and he came off the field battered and bruised.

At the end of the game his team mate Andy Weir said to my husband: “If you think it was tough playing against Davis and Hynd then just wait till you play Shearer and Greig.” MARGARET WALLACE Broomfield Avenue,
