Nairn trio through to Boys’ last 16 at Moray

Nairn players took pride of place in the opening phase of the match-play stage at the Xact Scottish Boys Championsh­ip as at rio of representa­tives made it into the last 16 at Moray Golf Club in Lossiemout­h.

Sandy Scott, Fraser Owenson and Calum Daun all progressed after coming through the first two rounds, the latter knocking out the defending champion, Airdrie’s Greg Dalziel, with a 3& 2 success in the second of his tests.

Scott, the younger brother of GB& I men’ ssquad member Sandy, booked his third- round spot with a 2&1 win over A a mar Sale em( New Club St Andrews ), keeping alive his hopes of adding this title to a Scottish Under- 16s title triumph just under a year ago.

Owen son, meanwhile, beat Kirtlingto­n’s Gregor Mckenzie 4& 3 as others to stay in the title hunt included leading qualifier Aidan O’hagan ( Old Ranfurly), last year’ s beaten finalist Joshua Greer( Joondal up) and recent Stephen Gallacher Foundation Trophy winner Connor Wilson ( Castle Park).

Being st aged si multaneous­ly at the same venue, the quarter- finalists in the Scottish Girls Championsh­ip include 11- yearold Grace Crawford, the youngest player in the field, after the Gull a ne player beat Aboyne’s Carmen Griffiths by one hole.

Broomiekno­we’s Hannah Darling, t he defend - ing champion, stormed to a thumping 9& 8 win while others to progress were Jennifer Rankine ( Haggs Castle ), Louise Duncan, Cameron Neil son( Alvaneu Bad ), Lorna Mcclymont ( Milngavie), Kirst y Bro die ( Strathmore) and Rachel Foster( Prestwick St Nicholas).
