SCOTTISH OPEN MEMORIES RICHIE RAMSAY

- “As a fan, it was going to the Bell’s Scottish Open at Gleneagles for the first time when I was seven! “The crowds were always big there, as was the case when it was held at Loch Lomond, another terrific venue. “For me personally it was when I had a lit

with my coach, Sean Foley, and got down to what I needed to do.

“I played with Lee Westwood in the first two rounds, didn’t think I’d played too well. But Billy Foster (Westwood’s caddie) said to me, ‘well played, mate, you’re going to be hard to beat this week’. That gave me confidence, thinking maybe my game looked better than it felt.

“What I love about links golf is you have so many options. You can be aggressive, thread the needle through pot bunkers and have a wedge in your hand. Or you can do what I did at Royal Aberdeen, play 4 and 5-irons off the tee, hit mid-irons into the green. That’s how I closed out the tournament. It’s a style of golf that suits all types. It doesn’t pigeonhole itself as suiting just one type of player.”
