SCOTTISH OPEN MEMORIES STEPHEN GALLACHER

-

“My first memories from the Scottish Open were when the event was sponsored by Bell’s and held on the magnificent King’s Course at Gleneagles.

“I used to go up and watch my uncle Bernard, who was a Tour player at the time, and I remember Peter O’malley, aka Pom, shooting the lights out over the closing few holes on the last day to win in 1992.

“Another of my early memories from the event was Gleneagles always being in such good condition.

“It was there that I played in my first-ever professional event – the Scottish Open in 1993. I remember the greens being twice as quick as I had ever putted on!

“Playing at Carnoustie in 1995, when a young Tiger Woods was in the field, and big Gordon Sherry nearly won, finishing joint-fourth as an amateur, is also something I still vividly remember.

“But my best Scottish Open memory was chipping in at the last at the wonderful Loch Lomond for a closing 64 to finish sixth behind Graeme Mcdowell in 2008.”
