Technical trouble

Record-breaking temperatures in Scotland last month have been declared invalid because a vehicle was parked too close to thermometers

And they have only started now to prevent such contamination in future? This effect is so widespread in measurements of global warming around the world that the scientific community – other than apparently Scotland’s – have discounted many measures of temperature rise for the past decade – or more.

Corrigenda 2 Oh dear, we can’t even get our temperatures right now – it’s enough to give a body heatstroke!

old clothes and porridge Why is the station even near a car park or road?

Will Sylvander I think the Met Office needs to check whether the thermometer was too near an SNP MSP giving forth on indy.

Cityboy1 Oh... no! That would be a Toarie Westminster MP parking his car deliberately to do Scotland down, then.

Scotspat How long was the vehicle there and how long does it take to get an accurate reading? Surely they are able to split the two?

Jim Thomas It is a maximum temperature for the day; it might only exist for a tenth of a second but it is recorded at that level in the thermometer as in a clinical thermometer, so any outside factor could affect it.
