A furious row erupted yesterday after the Scottish Conservatives attacked an SNP minister for the amount of sugar in her tablet recipe.
@Angus4falkirke wrote: “An act of kindness towards care experienced young people by @scotgov minister @Mareetoddmsp is attacked this morning by the Tories. This takes #Snpbad to a ludicrous and pathetically sad level and yet again shows the Tories up to be the heartless buffoons they’ve always been!”
@Brennajessie_ agreed: “Never mind brutal Tory austerity that’s pushing hundreds of thousands of families into poverty, the REAL public health crisis worthy of our condemnation is @Mareetoddmsp making tablet for a camping trip for young people.”
@Vonnsand added: “I am absolutely livid. I’ve been in @Mareetoddmsp’s company just the once and found her to be delightful. I am so, so angry that such an act of kindness has been used to try and score political points. Backfired though. The Tories look totally out of touch & uncaring.”
@Holyroodliam posted: “The weirdest bit of the #tabletgate thing is the idea someone is being criticised for using too much sugar in a recipe for something made almost entirely from sugar.”
#PIPERALPHA
Yesterday marked 30 years since the Piper Alpha disaster, which saw 167 men die when the oil rig exploded in the North Sea.
@Ally_begg recalled: “30 years ago today my dad was woken by a call which horrified him. An oil rig had exploded in the North Sea and they needed help. Dad arranged for Red Adair to be flown in to help put the fire out on the Piper Alpha.”
@Neildrysdale agreed: “It’s 30 years ago today since the world’s worst offshore disaster. And we owe it to the 167 Piper Alpha victims to ensure they’re never forgotten!”
@THEOGTC reported: “Piper Alpha 06.07.88. 167 men lost their lives and the lessons learned from this tragedy continue to be relevant today. Oil and gas has made great strides with safety over the past 30 years but there’s still much more to do.”
@Nicolasturgeon tweeted: “Thinking of the 167 people who died in the Piper Alpha disaster 30 years ago today – as well the loved ones they left behind and all those who still live with the awful memories. You are all in our thoughts.”
