Man stabbed in Edinburgh bar after England v Sweden World Cup match

-

A 24-year-old man was being treated in intensive care last night after he was attacked in an Edinburgh bar following the England v Sweden match.

The man, named locally as Peter Moyes, suffered serious neck wounds when he was attacked in the early hours of yesterday morning near the Mousetrap on Leith Walk.

It is understood Mr Moyes had been watching the Saturday afternoon game and had taken to social media to express support for Sweden.

Police arrived outside the Mousetrap on Leith Walk at around 12.30am yesterday morning and cordoned off the area.

Around ten police cars arrived following what witnesses have described as “terrifying” scenes.

A local musician later recalled how he came to the aid of the young man’s life.

Sean “Shoony” Kowalski of Edinburgh band Jamie & Shoony posted on Facebook about the moment he stepped in to help save Mr Moyes’ life.

He said: “I did all I could to keep him here. He died on me twice.

“I managed to keep him alive until the paramedics arrived. Hope you ok man. I don’t even know who you are.”

Saturday night drinkers reported being left shaken after witnessing the attack.

Police confirmed they were still on the scene yesterday and that the cordon remained in place as investigations continue.
