#THAILAND

A rescue operation began to remove 12 young football players trapped in the Tham Luang cave in Thailand. Six of the boys were lifted to safety in the first phase of the rescue.

@danielsutton10 said: “No cheering or clapping but ‘lots of smiles’ from rescuers as the first two boys emerged, a person at cave tells me. Mood still ‘subdued’ as they await the other boys.”

@Heliercheung added: “It all seems to be happening remarkably swiftly, considering one of the options was to wait four months for flood waters to recede – and considering it hadn’t been clear to us what rescue option they were going to try.”

@mary_janef said: “I feel so anxious. Please let them be ok. We can’t begin to imagine how their families are feeling right now.”

#BREXIT

Mike Russell has spoken out about the Brexit proposals agreed by Theresa May and her cabinet this week, believing the stance is a step in the right direction but it falls short of what the Scottish Government want. @oxojo said: “Can see lots of talk about easy movement of goods – and indeed, ‘flexible’ ie free movement of services but NOTHING about easy/ free movement of people.” @4mygr4ndkids added: “There is only one ‘obvious gap’ in the UK right now: a Jeremy-shaped hole where opposition to #Brexit should be.”

@Petewishart said: “These petulant narcissists are taking our country to the very brink with their chaotic Brexit, Scotland. No plan, no clue, just different flavours of the same disaster.”

#ALANGILZEAN

Tributes were paid after former Dundee and Tottenham striker Alan Gilzean died at the age of 79 after a battle with illness. @Coytey said: “My friend Alan Gilzean died this morning. It was a huge honour to have brought him back out on to the WHL pitch after so many years away and to have known him. A gentleman and a true legend.”

@1Mickyhazard added: “Very very sad to hear of the passing of the legendary Alan Gilzean, a lovely gentler man you cannot find, Gilly go make the Spurs team in Heaven an even better team, you will be sorely missed, thoughts and prayers with your family and friends RIP my friend.”
