Simpson powers to Switzerlan­d win

ATHLETICS: Robbie Simpson took victory at the Zermatt Marathon in Switzerlan­d yesterday in his first outing at the distance since landing bronze at the Commonweal­th Games.

The 26-year-old Scot, who is skipping next month’s European Championsh­ips, was 16 minutes clear of his nearest rival in winning in three hours and 39 seconds.

Meanwhile, Scottish prospect Kane Elliott struck gold at the European Under-18 Championsh­ips in Gyor. The Falkirk Victoria teenager pulled out a late sprint to win the 1500 metres in 3:55.26.
