Soft touch

-

So, as far as the UK government is concerned, we seem to be heading for some kind of “soft” Brexit’ or, as some would have it, BRINO ( Brexit in name only ). They won’t be able to say so out loud (and Mike Russell’s comments on Sunday didn’t help), but the SNP will be disappointed; they were hoping for a “hard” Brexit or better still, a “no-deal” Brexit so they could stir up resentment which they hope will aid the cause of independence – which is all they care about! The resignation letter from David Davis is not only timely but lays out the fears of those who voted to leave the unelected, dictatorial, and some would say corrupt EU and its leaders, who are doing everything possible to make leaving as awkward as possible and on financial terms that will discourage other countries from leaving, so their gravy train can roll on.

The government were given a mandate by the people but they are ignoring the wish that “leave means leave”.

Davis’s words: “In my view the inevitable consequence of the proposed policies will be to make the supposed control by Parliament illusory rather than real” sums up the problem. Those who voted to leave Europe wanted control of our borders and the end of payments to the EU, so if May and her cabinet are not prepared to “play hardball” they must call a General Election.
