#BEANO
Legendary Scottish comic the Beano has celebrated the 80th anniversary of its first issue. The Dundeebased publication, which stars such characters as Dennis the Menace and his dog Gnasher, first appeared in newsagents on 30 July 1938 and has remained a firm favourite among children across the UK ever since. Big Eggo has sadly gone.
@Crawf28 said: “Ah it’s The Beano’s birthday! I honestly used to cry if the shop ran out of copies and I had to settle for The Dandy instead”
@Ryanmorrisonjer commented: Happy birthday Beano. My grandparents got it for me. I found out my dad read it as a child and so did my granddad. Now my children read it. That’s four generations of Beano fun”
@sophiecooktalks offered: “Happy 80th birthday to the Beano – the comics were a massive part of my childhood and the annuals were a Christmas present must. Thanks for nurturing the rebellious attitude in me. My brother, on the other hand, got the Dandy”
@Dennynews commented: “I always thought The Dandy was the better comic. Desperate Dan owned Dennis the Menace”
#EDFRINGE
Thousands of performers and tourists are making their way to Edinburgh this week for the start of the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which officially gets underway on Friday at a record number of venues across the Capital.
@Patrickjmonahan offered: “On a packed train up to the Edinburgh Fringe looking out the window and the further north we’re going the temperatures are plummeting faster than a F-18 Jet in top gun! Not sure I’ve packed enough waterproofs for a Scottish heatwave! Edinburgh festival starts now”
@Msashleydavies commented: “Top tip if you’re coming to Edinburgh and are hot/stressed: get a 35-minute train to North Berwick. Swim in the sea, try the Lobster Shack in the harbour, take a boat trip and see some puffins, gannets and sometimes dolphins”
@comgavrob added: “Lots and lots of goodies becoming apparent at the Edinburgh Fringe this year. Be supportive and recommend a show to someone you know!
It is very tough as it is and artists are the absolute foundation of the whole kaboodle”
