(Canada / USA / formerly Edinburgh) 12/03/1930 - 18/06/2018

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Douglas emigrated first to Canada in 1956 and then to the United States in 1958. He made San Francisco his home for the next 60 years. During this time he circumnavigated the globe numerous times visiting his many friends and family in Australia and Europe, in particular those in Scotland and England. Initially Douglas worked as an insurance adjuster in San Francisco. In the late 1960s he opened his own private investigations firm, specializing in automobile accident investigations. He is survived by his brother, Christopher Meredith and four sisters, Moira Schulte, Patricia Meredith, Margaret Jones and Christine Meredith, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his younger sister, Anne. Douglas lived his life to the fullest, enjoying good food and whiskey, he could always be relied on to entertain with diverting tales of his adventures. He is well-remembered for his witty, handwritten letters to friends and family around the globe, as well as for educating bartenders worldwide on how to pour a Perfect Rob Roy. Douglas was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years. Donations may be made to this organization in honor of his memory. He will be greatly missed by all of us for his enduring sense of humor, and above all for his compassion and generosity. A memorial Mass was held at St Vincent De Paul Parish Church in San Francisco, CA on June 26, 2018.
