On the road: 650-year old bath house is moved to avoid flood damage
A Tukish soldier stands guard as the Artuklu Hamam, a centuries-old bath house weighing 1,600 tonnes, is loaded on to a wheeled platform and moved down a specially constructed road to avoid being engulfed by flood waters by a controversial dam project. The structure, which has been in the southeastern town of Hasankeyf for over 650 years, is being moved to a new location in a bid to preserve it.
It is believed that much of the town will be under water or risk damage because of the development of the dam project, which aims to drastically improve energy supplies for the southeast.
