#JACKWHITEHALL
Straight comedian Jack Whitehall’s casting as the first openly gay man in a Disney film – The Jungle Cruise – brought negative criticism just weeks after Scarlett Johanssen quit a transgender role after a backlash.
@csalvatore posted a sad face with the message: “Such a dam [sic] shame, it’s so hard to find gay actors to play gay roles in Hollywood.”
@ethanharv moaned: “If only there were gay actors who could play ‘camp’ as well as Jack Whitehall.”
@wallaceme wrote: “Imagine being angry at the discovery that acting involves actors pretending to be people they aren’t.”
@Notbrandonlee added: “If Jack Whitehall playing a gay character is problematic, then so is Neil Patrick Harris playing the straightest character I’ve ever seen on a TV show, or Jim Parsons playing the straight Sheldon Cooper, or the cast of Black Panther because they’re American not African.”
@kjcoshy” said: “Are you kidding? It’s ‘acting’ - why does his sexuality matter?”
@Colinasgrotto piped up: “I can understand the outrage about Jack Whitehall. I was annoyed with Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. He’s not American & never been to prison. In fact, he’s... an actor.”
#SCOTWOMENSHOUT OUT
Women and organisations fighting for equality were celebrated yesterday! @Karingoodwin added: “#Scotwomenshoutout to the women too busy to be on Twitter today because they are doing the (unpaid) caring jobs that society undervalues so badly.” @Angelahaggerty said: “Just want to give a big #Scotwomenshoutout to myself. I’m amazing and I inspire myself every day. And I’d like to thank myself for this shoutout.”
#LEFTHANDERSDAY
Forget the right-handed folk, yesterday was a day to hail all things supposedly sinister!
@Paulmccartney wrote: “Hey all you lefties, have a happy #Lefthandersday.”
@Kristenrn202 said: “Where my fellow lefties at? Show of left hands”
@Ciaspygirl joked: “Interesting Note: Obama, Clinton & Bush were all lefties. Not surprising, Trump is an Alt-righty.”
@Dagra2 said: “As lefthanded people, we’re more likely to be creative, but also more likely to kill. Swings and roundabouts.”
