Must do better

For all its blustering bravado about holding another independence referendum, it is the sheer scale of its own incompetence that is going to sink the SNP government – and its failure on education will matter the most, said columnist Brian Monteith.

Let’s face it, the SNP are incapable of making anything a success, after 11 years they’re still on a learning curve trying to teach education.

Bea Sutherland After over 100 years of mandatory schooling in the UK, literacy rates have dropped, families are fragmented, learning “disabilities” are skyrocketing, and children and youth are increasingly disaffected. Basic schooling has dumbed down the population by prompting rule-following, fragmented time and disillusionment.

Richard Bordin Isn’t it supremely ironic that Nicola Sturgeon, working class girl who benefited from a good Scottish education and then a law degree, has almost single-handedly brought about the ruination of both Scottish education and the probity of Scottish law.

Hod itanddodit Sorry Brian, but the end result of education in Scotland – Uni and jobs, is at least on a par with anywhere else; in fact, recently it was shown in a survey of salaries across the job market that Scottish graduates are actually more successful than their RUK counterparts.
