Bite of alright

-

Sheila Gilmore makes good points about Rough Sleeping (Letters, 16 August).

In this ongoing debate, where is the excellent work by Josh Littlejohn and the Social Bite? Has Housing Secretary James Brokenshire talked to him, I wonder?

Governments, national and local, can’t overcome this problem alone. Voluntary organisations and entrepreneurs already do valuable work to combat the effects of homelessness and rough sleeping. We can all do our bit by supporting the Social Bite initiative.

Pay forward the cost of a coffee or sandwich for a homeless person at one of their Social Bite cafes, or enjoy a good meal in Edinburgh’s Maison Bleue at Home in Queensferry Street. A £5 donation (gift aided, if possible) in the restaurant will pay forward a meal for a homeless person.

Then we can help Littlejohn develop more housing pods, like the ones he’s built in Granton. There’s also the Big Sleep Out, for us to take part in, or sponsor others who brave it. Folk like Josh Littlejohn can make a difference.
