Diamonds are trumped by Raith’s dramatic comeback

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Raith Rovers won a remarkable game 4-3 at Airdrie ,the Kirkcaldy side coming back from two goals down with three minutes to play despite having only ten men.

The Diamonds led 2-0 at the break after goals by Joao Victoria and Dale Carrick, but Liam Buchanan reduced the deficit on 56 minutes. Hopes of securing anything from their trip seemed to evaporate when Iain Davidson was red-carded after an angry clash with Grant Gallagher and Victoria added his second seven minutes from time.

Buchanan injected some hope before Kevin Nisbet cracked in an equaliser a minute into injury time. Nisbet then applied the finishing touch after a Buchanan flickon to complete a remarkable turnaround.

Raith moved up to second and boss Barry Smith said: “Anyone who questioned the commitment, desire and character of our players was proved wrong today. To perform as they did with ten men says a lot about them.”

Arbroath still lead the way after a 3-0 win at East Fife where Thomas O’brien, pictured, headed in the opener on 40 minutes. Ryan Wallace added a second before half-time and Danny Denholm scored the third 15 minutes from time from a Wallace cross.

Forfar are third after their 2-0 home victory over Stenhousemuir. John Baird tapping in following an unselfish pass from Jamie Bain. Murray Mackintosh added the second.

Brechin City refused to give up as they came back from two goals down to defeat Dumbarton 3-2 at Glebe Park. Bobby Barr chipped the Sons into a first half-lead and trialist Brad Spencer doubled their advantage on 56 minutes. However, Boris Melingui’s double either side of Callum Tapping’s completed the turnaround.

Stranraer enjoyed their first win of the season – a 2-0 success over visitors Montrose. David Brownlie poked in the first goal and Grant Anderson volleyed the second with only 17 minutes played.
