Falkirk appoint Mckinnon

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Falkirk’s hunt for a new manager took an unexpected twist last night when Morton boss Ray Mckinnon was announced as their new number one.

Ayr manager Ian Mccall and ex-dunfermline, Queen of the South and Ross County manager Jim Mcintyre had been linked with the job vacated by Paul Hartley earlier this week but, after being rebuffed by the duo, Falkirk approached Mckinnon.

The move ends a threemonth stay at Cappielow as Mckinnon was only engaged on a rolling 12-month contract at the end of May.

The appears to have been done in record time as Mckinnon posed with the Morton first-team squad for their annual squad picture on Thursday before taking part in a video interview with the club’s media officer and took calls yesterday morning to discuss their game at Partick Thistle.

Just after lunchtime, he left Cappielow for a meeting with representatives of the Bairns who needed to act quickly as current assistant manager Gordon Young is due to work with the Latvia manager Mixu Paatelainen over the nexttwoweeksashisnumber two.
