Irish trainer Mcconnell seeks first win at Kelso with Go Another One

John Mcconnell bids to open his account at Kelso this evening as the Irish trainer saddles his first runners at the Borders venue.

Already on the scoresheet with his raiders this year at Hamilton Park and Perth, he is represented by Go Another One in the Aitken Turnbull Architects Handicap Hurdle and Auntie Mary in the Elliot Henderson & Son Contractors Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.

Mcconnell said: “We’ve also had three winners on the Flat at Ayr and we enjoy coming over to Scotland. The prize money is good and you get well looked after

“Go Another One has had a good season already with wins at Stratford and Perth. He has had some issues but he was a very decent bumper horse and won two of his three starts before he went over hurdles.

The trainer, who is also a qualified vet, added: “He’s a big horse and was second in a point to point so he’ll be a chaser one day. “It’s a case of step by step with him but he’s a certainly in great form at the moment.”

Go Another One faces eight rivals in the £16,000 feature on Kelso’s opening card of the autumn. They include Gordon Elliott’s top-weight De Plotting Shed partnered by Richard Johnson who is heading north for five rides.

Also in the line-up are recent Perth winner Good Tradition trained by Donald Mccain and hat-trick seeking Alfie’s Choice carrying the colours of St Boswells couple Paul and Clare Rooney.

The first phase of a development that cost £350,000 has been completed and 2017 Grand National hero One For Arthur is making a guest appearance to officially open the new parade ring and winners’ enclosure.
