Singer and songwriter Ananya Birla
What’s the last piece of clothing you bought?
Adidas trackpants to wear in the studio. It’s important for me to feel comfortable when I’m making music.
What are you addicted to buying?
Sneakers. Sportswear as a trend is just starting to blossom in India. I love that sneakers are so nostalgic – certain styles are iconic and tied to music culture.
Best ever bargain?
Vintage band T-shirts. Chucking one on is so easy but feels like wearing a piece of music history.
Who has great style?
Instagrammer and stylist Marni Max. Every outfit is just bursting with personality. She breaks all the rules; exaggerating elements like a loose fit or an odd cut, clashing patterns and textures, colour-blocking. It’s unconventional and incredibly creative.
Name your favourite high street shop.
H&M for basics. I always head to the men’s section for oversized T-shirts. I like to play with proportions and I’m not too bothered about looking glam or ladylike, I’d prefer to be able to move easily, to dance or mess around or snuggle up on the nearest sofa.
Any fashion disasters you’d care to tell us about?
Wearing anything uncomfortable is a fashion disaster for me. If I’m uncomfortable in my outfit then I’ll be awkward and shy and everyone will be able to tell from my body language that I just don’t feel like myself. Not cool.
What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?
My Yeezy 500 trainers and my Re/done jeans. n
